2245.0. "Proper use of kinit on VMS" by VIRGIN::BILL (BILL is my lastname !!!) Wed May 07 1997 12:34

Hi folks

What is the right use of kinit on VMS DCE ?

VMS V6.2 DCE 1.4

I'm logged in as cell_admin

First try:

RDBVIA>kinit -r 30
$1$dub30:[sys0.syscommon.][sysexe]dce$kinit.exe;3: Malformed representation of p
rincipal when parsing name

Second try:

RDBVIA> kinit -r 30d
$1$dub30:[sys0.syscommon.][sysexe]dce$kinit.exe;3: Malformed representation of p
rincipal when parsing name

and also RDBVIA> kinit
$1$dub30:[sys0.syscommon.][sysexe]dce$kinit.exe;3: Malformed representation of p
rincipal when parsing name X
)@

or

RDBVIA> kinit cell_admin
$1$dub30:[sys0.syscommon.][sysexe]dce$kinit.exe;3: Malformed representation of p
rincipal when parsing name'@

I'm pretty sure I'm doing something wrong, maybe a VMS guru can help
out.

Thanks

2245.1Looks brokenSTAR::SWEENEYFri May 09 1997 10:276
Marco,

	Your usage seems fine. I think kinit is broken on OpenVMS. If this is a customer issue you can file a
case. I'll be filing an internal QAR on the problem.

2245.2Fix will be in next remedialSTAR::SWEENEYMon May 12 1997 12:595
	A fix for this will be in the next OpenVMS remedial for DCE. In the meantime, use DCE_LOGIN to work
around the problem.
