2229.0. "SSL 3.0 server for OpenVMS?" by KETJE::STAES (Topless = No brains at all) Thu Apr 24 1997 13:29

Hi,

One of my customers is interested in using SSL 3.0 in
home-developed task-to-task applications.

Is this available and in what form?
Does an SSL 3.0 server exists for OpenVMS?

Thanks,
Nand.

(PS: I will be frequently out of the office till May 12th. Please be patient
when asking for more info. Thank you.)

Is SSL = Secure Socket Layer? If so, why are you asking in the DCE-PRODUCTS
conference? Perhaps the UCX or Internet_Tools conference is more appropriate.
If not, please explain what SSL is and how it relates to DCE.

Hi, thanks for your reply, and yes, with SSL I meant Secure Socket Layer, sorry
for being unprecise.

The customer mentioned SSL, GSS-API, x.500, x.509 in one breath. Background is
that they are interested in an "SSL-like" solution, allowing for two-way
authentication.

So in principle anything goes, as long as clients are available on multiple
platforms, and we can offer the authentication server on OpenVMS. Thinking at
DCE, I thought this would be the best place to put the question.

However, I can take the question to the AltaVista people if you prefer.

Regards,
Nand.

My SSL knowledge is cursory at best, so you should get more knowledgeable
information. DCE does provide two-way authentication in a well-defined
model, which may or may not fit the customer's wishes, so you shouldn't
discount DCE yet.
