2222.0. "first-chance exception in D3InstAlarm.exe?" by PEACHS::HAZZARD () Thu Apr 17 1997 10:06

    Hello,

The customer just upgraded to DCE V1.1C and now is getting
        First-chance exception in D3InstAlarm.exe. They weren't seeing
        this in DCE V1.0.

    Environment information:
When using DCE version 1.1C on Windows NT 4.0 and Microsoft
Developer Studio 4.2, we receive the follow messages in several
of our RPC tasks, often in groups of two:

    ---------------------------
    First-chance exception in D3InstAlarm.exe (KERNEL32.DLL):
    0xC1E80030: (unknown).
    First-chance exception in D3InstAlarm.exe (KERNEL32.DLL):
    0xC1E80030: (unknown).

    First-chance exception in vrt.exe (RPCRT4.DLL)
    : 0x000006A6: (unknown).
    First-chance exception in vrt.exe
    (RPCRT4.DLL): 0x000006A6: (unknown).

We also experience a problem where the client process crashes
when the server goes away unintentionally.

These problems did not exist when using version 1.0

Anyone seen this before, what should we look for?

    Thanks for any help.

Powell,

We'll need more information before we can debug this further. Is the
customer really upgrading from V1.0 directly to V1.1C? They didn't
use V1.1 through V1.1B. Did they recompile their DCE application
before running on V1.1c. There could be some backward compatibilty
issue jumping directly from V1.0 to V1.1C. (although we're not aware
of any).

Could they get a stack trace at the point the exception occurs?
Can they reproduce this reliably?
You may need to enter an ipmt, and we'll get someone here to look
at it.

I'll check with the customer and gather more information.
