Hi,
I'm working with a customer who is having problems configuring
inter-cell communications. 'cdscp show cell /.../<remote_cell>'
results in:
Error on entity: /.../geneticcell.nat.bt.com
Software error detected in server
Function: dnsReadAttrValue
I set this up in our lab here and got it working. I provided
instructions to the customer regarding the DCE GDAD configuration
and DNS setup. Based up the output below these look OK, but it
is still not working for them.
I'm open to suggestions.

| Hi,
I have the same error on a cell in the office here, are there
any debug switches for gda ?
I have intercell communication working one way but fails the other
I can see by tracing traffic on the DNS server that in the failing
directioon the remote cell info. is not looked up.
Admittedly the failing cell is still DCE 1.3a Alpha VMS 6.2 this is
only a test box I'd like to understand whats not going on :-)

| We had seen a similar problem internally during our DCE UNIX V2.0 field test.
The gdad was indeed returning this error because it didn't like what
it received from a BIND server. I believe we attributed the error
to old BIND servers on ULTRIX nodes.

A customer had the same problem with VMS servers:
We had to check on following things to have it work:
- He had to modify the file RESOLV.CONF in the directory
dce$specific:[ETC]
( this file should have a proper entry of the DNS server)
- He had to restart all cells. This should definitely not be this
way, but it worked without Software Error detected ;-)
- The foreign cell name has to be registered in the local DNS ! It
is not enough to have it registered in a foreign DNS server,
else you get the Software Error detected
