2142.0. " DCE/DTS and NTP queries" by GIDDAY::CHONG (Andrew Chong - Sydney CSC) Tue Jan 28 1997 01:37

    DCE V1.3B for open/VMS.

Customer is asking some questions about DCE which I have little
    experience.

Can DCE/DTS (client/server) sync to hosts providing UCX/NTP time ?
    If so , how ?

Are there any opcom messages from DCE/DTS when the time is out of
    tolerance ?

What is the future of DTS ? Are there any further
development/improvement ? It seems like there is alot of development
    going on with NTP .

    Regards,
    andrew

Andrew,

DCE can talk with a ntp environment with a small program
called dts_ntp_provider.c. I'm not 100% sure if it's bundled
with the VMS product, but if not take it from a UNIX Box
(or I mail it to you).

This setup works quite nicely.

You get OPCOM messages if the daemon (DTSD) is not running.

DTS is a time provider well integrated into the DCE architecture, but
if you don't like it you can take another one. DCE just depends
on the fact that times are in sync ! Sometimes it makes sense
to use only NTP (e.g. in an ASE environment)

Hope this helps
