My favorite seed catalogue comes in. I just don'w have enough space!

Do I go with Mammoth Grey melting or Dwarf grey snow peas (smaller
yield on the dwarf, but much prettier flowers)? Do I gamble
on early butternut, or guarantee winter squash with Sweet Momma, a true
space pig, or do I go for the single serving dumpling or delicata's,
delicate to start, but very tasty. And beans, good grief! do I grow
the fiet beans and the hortos (very susceptable to bean beetles) or do
I stick with black valentine and scarlet bush (gotta love those red
flowers in salads) And carrots? double dig and grow the danvers and
imperator types, or stick with the nantes, little fingers and orbits?

I both love and hate this time of year, while planning the garden.

throw her a shower" popping out of my mouth. I said them to a member of her
family, and she said, "Go for it, June." Now, I am throwing a shower.
I think it will be fun, but I have never:

a) given a wedding shower
b) prepared for anything this big without the help of either or both of my
sisters
c) cooked for 30 (if we decide to have it at home)

I'm surprisingly nervous about this. I keep saying to myself, "What's the
worst thing that can happen?" Unfortunately, the answer is "The bride could
miss the shower because she will decide to elope instead of having a wedding."

as far as the food, keep it light and easy.

Carrots, celery, mushrooms, and other dipper thingies. I buy as much
pre-packaged as I can. Hidden valley makes a good ranch dip that I use
    for veggies.

If you want something more substantial, try wienies in barbecue sauce
in a crockpot, wings, or a meat and cheese tray courtesy of the local
    deli.

Punch, or champagne punch (depends on your friends, we did beer and pop)

cookies or something. doesn't need to be too fancy and you can get
really nice ones at the grocery.

On Saturday Carry presented us with 3 female kittens.

On Sunday we weighed them and found that there was a 10% from their
birth weight. So it looks like we are going to have to supplement their
feeding for the next few weeks.

BTW new born Devon Rex kittens are seriously ugly.

    Jamie,

Might want to watch mom, rather than supplementing right off the bat.
Many mammals lose weight the first day or so, before they start
gaining. Mom needs a bit of time to get her milk in and the kitties
seriously need the colostrum for surviving infections.

Just personal opinion and experience, but it has been mine that when
you start screwing around with nature to much it does make for serious
consequences. In mammals supplemental feedings can be the beginning of
the end for mom's nursing, be they rabbit, dog, cat or human.

    meg

46.740SPECXN::CONLONMon Apr 07 1997 13:1016
    Jamie, Meg's right.

My son lost an entire pound of weight during his first few days of
life (in an intensive care nursery) and they were feeding him formula.

One pound was more than 10% of his entire body weight, too.

When he came home and we started nursing, he lost more weight (but
his pediatrician told me to stay the course with nursing because
he wasn't in danger as long as I kept him hydrated with bottles
    of very slightly sweetened water.)

We were in full swing with nursing within 5 days at home, and he turned
into Super Baby after that, pretty much. :>

Most mammals do tend to drop weight at the beginning, though, as Meg said.

I'm leaving it all to Harry. He is allowing the mother to feed them
then supplementing their diet with some formula he got from the vet.

With the first nest we let her do it on her own and lost them.

Yesterday he took the mother and kittens round the vet. Mother was
given an antibiotic and something to stimulate her milk. She now seems
more interested in staying in the nest.

As of this morning all are above birth weight. The smallest, who
actually takes the most when we feed them, is showing the least gain.

    Jamie.

It appears to be a pentium PC, but unfortunately it came fitted with
the largest collection of software bugs that I have ever seen in one
place. This is purported to be an operating system and goes under the
    name of Windows95.

In less than 24 hours I have had it lock up my application window
twice, in each case the window had to be closed, and for good measure
it managed a total hang, which required a reboot.

Naturally this all happened whilst our customers are having a "Patch
Panic" and I have a lot of work on.

    One less than happy camper.

Everyone's wondering that. I guess, unless they're all
accessible by the web or some other means, that Digital

Well, according to my handy-dandy Exchange Migration Guide V2.0,
there's an application called NetNotes, available with instructions
    for installing at http://www-ccs.wro.dec.com/NT/Kits/

I haven't got that far in my migration yet, so don't know anything
about it ... maybe someone who does could dump some info in here
somewhere? (I know, this is in the wrong topic.)

Fight back. I have a 4-node VMS cluster in my office and nothing
capable of running Exchange. The "corporate mail strategy" does not address
my needs. I already have 3 21" graphics heads in my office - I don't see a
need to add another just so I can read mail, half of which I'd probably
rather never receive.

There are Notes clients for the PC, but as far as I know, there is no
server code. I've moved a couple of conferences to WAYLAY as other VMS nodes
have dropped off the face of the earth. WAYLAY isn't exactly a studly system
though and eventually I'll have to do something else if I want to adopt a lot
more conferences.

Oh Exchange is wonderful. I get loads of boring old official memos
which witter on about things that do not concern or interest me in the
    least.

Before they used to get mixed up with my real Email, now they go to
Exchange. It has this great feature, there is a little X and when you
click on that the item is deleted.

About once a week I go clean out the in box.

Jamie, it is even better than that. Go have a look at the Tools menu,
and look for the Inbox Assistant. You can set it up so that it will
recognise boring mail by subject or sender, and automagically chuck it
in the wastebasket without you ever knowing you got it in the first
    place.

We've been on Exchange for a few months now - I love it. I do still
have a VAX account for the things that Judy mentioned: SMS, conf.
rooms, purchase orders, order suplies, notes, etc. I think, as someone

    of ALL vax mail.

Snow on June 7th here??? Wow.

The latest I've seen it snow in Colorado was on May 31st in Denver
one year. I went to get gas late at night, and the air was totally
filled with enormous wet snow flakes (which all melted when they
hit the ground, even at night.)

The next day, it was summer. :>

We also had a blizzard in Denver on September 12th that year, so

Denver wasn't cooler than usual, as I recall - but it did seem to have

We had a very, very nasty blizzard that winter, though - my son was
