    Wednesday afternoon I laid down the tracks for my voice-over demo tape.
    
    I will be able to hear the completed version next week, get some dubs
    made, and start sending them out.
    
    This may not seem like much of an accomplishment, but it really is.  I
    am no longer just going to wish I could support myself acting.

    I remember going along to the studio with Harry when he did his first
    demo tape. He was very nervous as we sat waiting for the guy ahead to
    record his track.

    The guy was Dutch, but when the red light came on he turned into a
    dynamic American DJ, sounding very professional. Harry blanched.

    When Harry got into the hotseat he was very fidgety. The light went on
    for him and he began to read his piece doing a mimic of the guy ahead
    of him. As he finished he looked up and asked what I thought. I told
    him to do it again and "Knock the American out of it".

    He then reread the piece in his normal speaking voice. The sound
    engineer agreed that the second take was much better.

    The agency sent the tape out to all their customers so that they might
    select voices for their requirements. To his surprise Harry got loads
    of recording sessions but was amazed that the "American DJ" got no work
    at all.

    Now he records demo tapes without thinking about it.

    Oh, it wasn't bad at all!  I had a good time.  Of course, this is *my*
    tape, so there is no one else on it.  And, as I had reserved the time
    with the recording studio, I didn't have to sit and listen to anyone
    else.  That *would* have been hard!
