324.0. "Hijacked airliner" by TLE::SAVAGE () Thu Nov 03 1994 15:33
OSLO, Norway (AP) -- An airliner with 129 people on board was
hijacked during a domestic flight over northern Norway Thursday and
forced to fly to Oslo, police said.
The news agency NTB said the hijacker or hijackers were
believed to be Bosnians and may be armed. The report could not be
immediately confirmed. It was it not clear what types of weapons
they had, and police would not say whether they had made any
demands.
The plane, Scandinavian Airlines System flight 347, was
hijacked on a flight from the town of Bardufoss to the Arctic city
of Bodo.
Fifty-two people were allowed to leave the plane after it
landed in Bodo, police said.
Bodo police chief Bjorn Hareide said officers surrounded the
plane at the airport, but decided to let it take off for the safety
of the remaining passengers.
``It was a situation that I saw as a threatening,'' he said.
After an hour and 45 minutes on the tarmac, the plane flew to
Gardermoen charter airport outside Oslo, said Kjell Bergland, a
police officer at the airport.
The state radio network NRK said a bomb threat was called in at
main Oslo airport, Fornebu, at the same time as the hijacked plane
landed at Gardermoen.
It was unclear whether the incidents were related.
