563.0. "Statsarchivet / Trondheim Question" by LANDO::EBENS (Mary Jean Ebens - BXB2-2/G06) Fri May 27 1994 13:34
Does the Statsarchivet in Trondheim keep emmigration passenger lists
for other areas or just its own?
I'm trying to find the birthplace of my great-grandfather.
His son found his Father's emmigration to this country (USA) in 1888
listed when he visited Trondheim and the Statsarchivet a long time ago.
He doesn't remember if the records indicated that his Father had sailed
from the port there or some place else. There were no birth records
listed for his Father which was what he and I are after.
My reasoning is as follows: If the Trondheim records list him as
sailing from there, then he most probably came from that area. If
Trondheim lists all the emmigrants from Norway, then it wouldn't prove
anything.
If I knew that he probably came from that area, my search would be
narrowed a bit.
Thanks for any help.
Mary Jean
