Subject: Norway, Sweden, Finland plan NW Russia fund
Date: Mon, 18 Apr 94 8:40:17 PDT
ST PETERSBURG, April 18 (Reuter) - Norway, Sweden and
Finland plan to start a fund for north-west Russia with the
European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD),
Chairman of the EBRD Governors Anne Wibble said.
She told a news conference the fund would be used to help
mid-sized companies take off after privatisation.
Norwegian Finance Minister Sigbjoern Johnsen told the EBRD
annual meeting that the Regional Venture Fund would be based in
Murmansk.
"Norway, Finland and Sweden have a particular interest in
the development of this region, which we regard as having a
highly promising industrial potential," he said.
Wibble, who is also Swedish finance minister, said Sweden
was also actively exploring the possibility of supporting small
and medium-size industrial projects in the St Petersburg area.
