Two Swedish movies are being released in the U.S. this summer under the
English titles of _The Slingshot_ and _Sunday's Children._ Reviews of
both have recently been posted to rec.arts.movies.reviews. I won't
repost them here, but if you're interested you can find out what at
least some Americans are saying about two Swedish films.

The Swedish film nominated for an Oscar (for best foreign film) is
called "Lust och fgring stor". The title is hard to translate,
because it is a line from a very famous Swedish song ("Den blomstertid
nu kommer"), that is always sung at the end of the school year. Since
the story (in the film) is about the love/passion (I haven't seen the
film) between a teenage boy and his female teacher, just translating
the title word by word wouldn't make sense in English, since it is
taking out of context.
The film is directed by Bo Widerberg and the main character (the boy)
is played by Johan Widerberg, the director's son. Johan Widerberg is
probably mostly known for his part as "Didrik" in the wonderful TV show
"Ebba och Didrik" that was broadcastet about 5 years ago.

...it received a "Guldbagge" in Sweden, The highest Swedish film honor
. I believe... I know that Thomas Von Bromsen (He was the uncle in "My
life as a dog") won the "best supporting actor" award...
Guldbagge, hmmm, tricky one...Guld=gold and bagge=scarab,
Let's just say that an Oscar is not a pretty sight either!
The title is a line from a famous song, that every school child in
Sweden sing at the schools' last day celebration (in spring) Sort of a
"singing in" the summer.
The story is about a student (15) who had a love affair with his new
(married) teacher., The student's relations with his father.
Director: Bo Wideberg (Elvira Madigan, Mannen pa taket, Adalen 31,
Ormens vag pa Halleberget,Kvarteret Korpen). His son Johan Wideberg is
in this movie. He is the young student.
