This meeting features a presentation by Bjarne Stroustrup, the
inventor of the C++ programming language.

Title: C++ and Object-Oriented Programming
Abstract: This talk will present the key aims and concepts of C++ and
discuss how they relate to C, data abstraction, and object-
oriented programming. In doing so, the major C++ features
(such as inheritance, information hiding, overloading,
parameterized types, and exceptions) will be presented.
The emphasis will be on the way C++'s statically typed
mechanisms support the construction of efficient production
software for a wide variety of systems.

Biographical data:
Bjarne Stroustrup, Cand.Scient. (Mathematics and Computer Science), 1975,
University of Aarhus, Denmark; Ph.D. (Computer Science) 1979, Cambridge
University, England; AT&T Bell Laboratories 1979-.
Bjarne Stroustrup is the designer and original implementor of C++ and the
author of ``The C++ Programming Language''. His research interests include
distributed systems, operating systems, simulation, programming methodology,
design, and programming languages.
Dr. Stroustrup is a distinguished member of the technical staff in Bell Lab's
Computer Science Research Center and a member of the Danish Research Academy.
He is also actively involved in the standardization of C++ as the author of
the base document and the chairman of the working group for extensions.
Directions: Exit on Shoreline from Hwy 101. Go east towards the bay and
drive until you see all the Silicon Graphics buildings on
your right hand. This is the last intersection on Shoreline.
Make a right and follow the road to the end, then turn right
onto the parking lot in front of Building 6.
Notice: The meeting will start at 7:00 pm sharp. Please be there on time
as the doors are locked after 7:00 pm.
