505.0. "Canoe trip in Dalsland" by MUNDIS::KPLUSZYNSKI (Klaus Pluszynski, ACT-Mfg.Ind.) Wed May 06 1992 04:27

We will come to Sweden in June and spend a week or two in Dalsland,
discovering the lakes from a canoe.

Most likely we will start at the city of Bengtfors. Maybe someone
would like to share his experience with us and give some hints and
tips, e.g. possible routes, weather in June, mosquitos, canoe and
equipment rental (ever heared of the 'Silverlake Canoe Center' ?).

Your response is greatly appreciated !

505.1Advice from an old canoerSTKAI1::SWE070::lronnbladLars Ronnblad @SOOTue May 12 1992 04:5823
Hi Klaus!

Some ten years ago I made canoe trips in Dalsland, it is a very nice
area. The channel of Dalsland is an old transport trail.

If I were to canoe in Dalsland I would go a bit futher to the north than
Bengtsfors to avoid the water polution from paper mills. I suggest that
you start in rjng. There is a canoe center there as well, I'm sure
they can give you advice on routes and rental of equipment. Give the
Toutistcenter in rjng a call tel: +46(573)14136. The taxi companies
were happy to transport us and our canoe when we where doing our trips.
This give you more freedom of choice.

Make sure that you are well equiped with warm cloths and mosqouito
protection. The weather is typically nice before mid-summer, but don't
take it for granted. Water temperature is still low in june, by the way
the lakes in Dalsland are so deep that they seldom get realy warm.

Regards,

Lars
