Hi all,
The European Football Championships are being hosted by Sweden next
year. Since there's a reasonable chance that England will qualify
and I could stay with my (Swedish) wife's family, I asked them to try
and get some tickets.
My mother in-law rang back today and said that there was no way a
Swede could by a ticket for any other foreign national. Apparently
they're so worried about hooliganism that they're segregating
everyone and you can only buy a ticket in your own country.
She also mentioned that there was something in the press about a
Norwegian taking time off work and queing for a ticket only to be
told the above.
In actual fact, you can only get some kind of receipt which you trade
in for a ticket on the day of the game. I would guess that this
'receipt' has your name, person-number, shoe size etc and you'd have
to produce some id in order to get your ticket. Anyone know if this
is true? Any ways round it? What about foreign nationals resident in
Sweden?
Regards,
Pete

Pete, what you discribe is perfectly true. The security around the
champinships is extreme.
In order to buy tickets in Sweden you have to be swedish so this means
that foreigner living in Sweden can't buy tickets.
The way around it would have been that your mother in-law had bought
the `receipt' and didn't tell anybody that it was for you, just simply
get the ticket the right day and give it to you. But what to expect
from a mother in-law .....;-)

Pete,
Hm ... this is bordering on racial discrimination!
Any idea what percentage of tickets have been allocated to Swedes?
Are the tickets on sale in Sweden only for the first round matches or
are tickets also available for the later rounds?
How much do they cost?
Will tickets only be made available to those countries which qualify
and, if so, can you only buy tickets for those games in which the
qualifying country in question plays?
Regards,
Pete
