They require you to have a valid health insurance card (the yellow
card) to be admitted free. This means you must be a resident and have
a working permit (you won't get a yellow card if you don't pay
    taxes---that is your insurance fee).

The Danish courses are organised in levels (as are most of the language
courses at Studieskolen---they teach 38 languages), from level 1 to
level 9 for the basic part, which, I think, takes three month. I have
thier lates programme at home, so I will come back to this another day.
The courses start eight times a year (six to eight weeks inervals) at
each level. Non-residents can sign up, for at modest fee. I payed 915
kr. for a four month latin course (2 x 2 hours a week), just to
illustrate the level. Most courses are 300-500 kr., depending on the
duration. The price is roughly proportional to the number of lessons
    you receive.

I do not think Studieskolen cares about where you come from. Whether
or not you will have to pay depends on which kommune you live in
(Kbenhavn kommune will pay, Frederiksberg won't). They don't care
what you have studied earlier, but they do have a Danish course for
Swedish-speaking people, but that is probably intended for swedes.

I will send out a message later, with addresses, telephone numbers,
    etc.

I promised a while ago to write a little about Studieskolen, and their
    Danish courses for foreigners.

Here is the part of their programme, covering Danish courses,
exclusively for foreigners. There are further courses following these,
but they are not exclusively for foreigners.

   ------------------------------------------------------------------------
   DANISH FOR FOREIGNERS.

Levels 1-4: For beginners with no knowledge or students with a slight
knowledge of Danish. The students must be familiar with the
Latin alphabet. The courses train the ability to handle
elementary everyday situations. All four skills are taught
(listening, speaking, reading, and writing), but emphasis is put
	on listening/comprehension and speaking.

Teaching material handed out at the registration.

    Levels 5-8: for pre-intermidiate students.

Levels 9-10: for intermidiate students who feel able to communicate in
    basic Danish.

Danish courses 1-10 and writing skils courses 1-2 are held in
accordance with Act 355 governing adult-immigration education in
Denmark. The actual courses are free, but students must pay for
required teaching material (level 1 and 3: dkr. 265, level 2 and 4:
dkr. 150). Students attending these courses must not at the same time
enroll for Danish classes at other schools. We cannot accept students
living in Frederiksborg Amt. PERSONAL ENROLLMENT ONLY, AT THE OFFICE.
Other Danish courses are held in accordance with the terms of the Adult
Night School Education Act. These courses are open to all studens.

LENGTH OF COURSES: Studieskolen courses in Danish for foreigners start
eight times a year, i.e. August, September, October, December,
February, March, May and June. Courses run 6-8 weeks with 1, 2, 3 or 5
    meetings a week.

TYPE OF COURSES: ordinary classroom teaching is the most common form.

COUNSELLING: The head of the Danish Section, exam. art. lars Skov is
available at the office for counselling Monday and Wednesday
    12.00-14.00 and Thursday 14.00-16.00 (phone +45 33 14 30 22).
Available for telephone consultation one hour prior to normal
    counselling hours.

National Health Card to be shown at enrollment. (thats the famous
    yellow card).

433.2I did it !EFGV04::LEEThu Jan 24 1991 04:5623
I attended a course given by the Studieskole (by Studieskolen ? -
difficult point in mixing Scandinavian and English) in 1983. I had a
    fabulous time then.

It was a special "Summer Course in Danish Language, Culture and
Society". Classes were with about (my memory is a bit vague here) 15
people, right in the heart of Copenhagen. It lasted four weeks and in
the mornings we did Danish language, and in the afternoons we went on
guided tours of major Danish institutions - parliament, architectural
and social-housing achievements, schools etc. Participants came from
all over Europe and there was lots of group-feeling by the end.

I've been told that this is one of the best Studieskolen courses to do
as the participants are people who are particularly interested in
Danish language and culture, as opposed to the courses at other times
of the year, where the participants are more people (perhaps even
Digital people, but I don't know that) who _need_ to learn Danish for
their day to day living in Denmark.

Det er sund at jeg har glemt nsten alt som jeg lrte for 7 r siden !
