FINNISH FOLK MUSICAL COMING TO FITCHBURG

An amateur theatre company from Jyvaskyla, Finland will present
a single performance of "Talkootanssit", a Finnish language folk
play with lovely music by Ilmari Hannikainen. Originally produced
at the Savonlinna Opera Festival in 1930 by the Finnish diva, Aino
Achte, it has become one of the staples of Finnish folk drama. The
music includes several songs that are so popular that many think
them to be folksongs. The plot is "folk-play simple" and there
is much singing and dancing by a company of 40.

The performance is at Fitchburg State College's Weston Auditorium
on Wednesday, August 23 at 7 P.M. Tickets are $5.
