242.0. "Rya rugs?" by CIRCUS::KOLLING (Karen, Sweetie, Holly; in Calif.) Sat Nov 28 1987 23:09

I have a couple of terrific Rya rugs made by the Ege rug company
of Denmark. Alas, they seem to have stopped making this type of
rug (shag) and are now making plush cut ones instead. At least,
that's all they are exporting to the U.S. I wrote directly to the
company in Denmark, and they just referred me to their local agent,
who had already said the shags were no longer available. I have
three rooms left to furnish in my house, all of them waiting for
shag Ryas..... Anyone know of a U.S or Scandinavian source that
    sells these thru the mail?

I did find a place in the U.S. that sells yarn and patterns for
make-your-own rugs, but #1 I have no time and #2 they were as expensive
    as ready-made.

    Thanks for any info,

    Karen

242.1Lundgren RyaTHRILL::PAANANENMon Nov 30 1987 10:357

Lundgren Rya of Framingham MA sells ready made ryas and kits.
At least they did two years ago. Is Lundgren the place you've
      already looked into?

Yes, I think it was Lundgren. The cost of the kit was about the
same as the cost of the rugs of the same size I had already bought.
I have no idea how long it takes to hand make an 8x11 foot rug,
but I'm pretty sure I don't want to find out. I'm still painting
    my house, inside and out.....

If it's any help, I made a 5' x 7' rya rug in five weeks when
I had a fractured hip and couldn't do much of anything else. It's
real pretty though, and incredibly soft underfoot.

Best of Scandinavia is located in Amherst, not Nashua. I'm not sure
    about the zip code.

Sorry , I can't help you with the RYA, but ..

It's a little offtrack, and just a little "forresten" (by the way).

When I was working field service in Aarhus in DK I was account
responsible for EGE. They use an 1135 (good old PDP)
and a CSS gunbar system to
make any four color, - 4 meter wide patern , in any length you want
it !! Lately they have added a 750 to make the patterns and fit
the right colors, simulating the rooms they are going into.

Hope you find a RYA solution Karen ...
