                    Swede sets new world high-jump record
     
    Stockholm, June 30 dpa - Patrick Sjoeberg, a Swede, set a new world
    record in the high jump Tuesday, clearing 2.42 metres. Sjoeberg, 22,
    bettered by a centimetre a jump in Kobe, Japan, on September 4, 1985,
    when Igor Paklin of the Soviet Union cleared 2.41 metres. 
    
    The Swede had already given a hint of what was to come when he equalled
    that record indoors earlier this year. The jump Tuesday at the Grand
    Prix athletics meet in Stockholm brought a standing ovation from the
    crowd of 20,000. Sjoeberg, the silver medallist at the last Olympics,
    cleared the mark on his third attempt.
