197.0. "Foreign ministers discuss nuclear-free zone" by TLE::SAVAGE (Neil, @Spit Brook) Fri Mar 27 1987 10:19
Helsinki, March 27, TASS
Finnish Foriegn Minister Paavo Vayrynen called a decision taken by the
foreign ministers of five Nordic states to set up a joint expert
working committee of Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland to
look into the possibilities of establishing a nuclear-free zone in the
region, a big step forward in the north of Europe towards this goal. He
said this after his return from a two-day meeting of the above foreign
ministers, which took place in Reykjavik. Vayrynen pointed to the
importance of reaching an agreement on establishing a nuclear-free zone
in the north of Europe, provided there is a will among all the
interested states and a support of nuclear powers.
