Associated Press Tue 10-FEB-1987 00:52 BRF--Sweden-Alligator pidX10-FEB-8700 Oldest Alligator in Captivity Dies STOCKHOLM, Sweden (AP) - Smiley, the world's oldest alligator in captivity, has died at age 65 in a maritime museum in the western city of Goteborg. Smiley fell ill about two weeks ago and died Monday, the Stockholm morning newspaper Dagens Nyheter reported. She was born in Mississippi and brought to Goteborg in 1923 when the city celebrated its 300th anniversary. The Guinness Book of World Records listed Smiley as the oldest alligator in captivity.

She was 66 otherwise you're correct. One other thing that could be intresting. The city of G|teborg wanted to save money. Therefore they changed the heating system in the museum where Smilet (not Smiley) lived. There were problems with the new system and the heat went down from 27-28 degrees to 22 degrees sometimes. Smilet couldn't take that, so she died... |
