170.0. ""Kalle's Kaviar" comes to Boston" by MAY20::MINOW (Martin Minow, MSD A/D, THUNDR::MINOW) Wed Dec 03 1986 13:55
Another of Sweden's unsung culinary treats -- and one more accessable
to the non-native than either lutfisk or surstrmming -- is a spread
made of crushed cod roe. It is sold in toothpaste-style metal tubes,
and is served spread on buttered rye hard-bread (Vasa brd), perhaps
with sliced hard-boiled eggs and a sprig of dill.
I was suprised to find it in a local deli:
European SmokeHouse
Mass. Ave. and Park Ave.
Arlington Heights.
(Take route 2 to Park Ave. Go North into Arlington about 1 mile --
At the stop light at the bottom of the hill, turn left at Mass Ave.
and park. The smokehouse is about the second store from the corner.)
By the way, there's an Indian take-out place with good chicken pockets
next door, and the best chocolate in Boston at the Chocolate Box further
down the block.
Martin.
