150.0. "K.O.'s Scandinavian connection" by TLE::SAVAGE (Neil, @Spit Brook) Tue Oct 14 1986 12:31
The October 27, 1986 issue of Fortune magazine hails Ken Olsen as
"America's most successful entrepreneur." The article about him, which
was written by Peter Petre and begins on Page 24, includes the
following account of how he met his wife.
At the start of this account, Ken Olsen was a student helper in
MIT professor Jay Forrester's computer lab. His immediate supervisor
was Norman Taylor.
"In the spring of 1950, recalls Taylor, Olsen asked for six month's
leave, and vanished from the campus without explaning his plans.
When he came back, he had a wife. He had met Eeva-Lsa Aulikki
Valve, the daughter of a Finnish minister, when she was an exchange
student in his hometown [Stratford, Connecticut]. During his leave,
Olsen had followed her back to Scandinavia, and taken a job as an
electrician at a Swedish ball-bearing factory to pay his way while
her courted her."

| Re: .1: Thanks for the corrected spelling. Now, the readers of this
conference are among the select few that know the actual full name of
Ken Olsen's wife.

| I didn't know it either - but still able to correct the spelling
:-)
(A lot of Finnish names have a double i - when handwritten, people
often interpret it as , especially here in Germany, because it
looks the same and people aren't used to ii's [that's waht happens
to my wife all the time!]).

said that Ken spent a lot of time with his grandparents as a child,
and although they spoke good english they used mostly norwegian
