Denmark To Buy General Dynamics Ground-To-Air Missiles
COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) - Denmark has decided to buy 850 Stinger
ground-to-air missiles for about $100 million from General Dynamics
Corp., Defense Minister Hans Engell announced Thursday. The
American-designed missile was chosen over England's Starstreak missile,
the French Mistral system and the Bofors RBS-70 from neighboring
Sweden.
Engell's ministry released a statement saying General Dynamics had
offered "100 percent compensation" to Danish industry in the form of
Danish production of parts for the missile and technological
cooperation. The minister said Danish industry already had worked with
General Dynamics in producing elements of the American-designed F-16
jet fighter used by the Danish air force.
The missile contract is part of a $149 million improvement in Danish
air defenses. The program is also to include new warning, control and
data processing equipment.
