               US Firm to Build Swedish Electronic Mail System
    
    WASHINGTON (AP) - GTE Telenet, a U.S. firm, announced Monday that the
    Swedish Telecommunications Administration has awarded it a contract to
    build an electronic mail system in Sweden. GTE said in a statement that
    Sweden will be the 11th country to adopt its system. The others are the
    United States, Japan, Norway, Canada, Australia, Taiwan, Belgium,
    Britain, Italy an Saudi Arabia. 
    
    The Swedish system will also act as a clearing-house for other types of
    electronic messages, such as telex, entering Sweden. 
    
    Paolo Guidi, vice president of the Telenet systems, said in the
    statement: "Sweden is joining the ranks of nations that will have
    direct electronic messaging links to each other based on international
    standards."
    
    Claudia Houston, a press officer for GTE, said the first international
    connection, between the United States and Canada, is now starting.
