At the February SIGAda/ADAJUG in LA I had the opporunity to see
a presentation by Softplan on their Ada H/W,S/W offering. It was
very interesting. Softplan is a subsidiary of Nokia in Finland.
I'm curious if someone could put a little more down here about them.
They seem to be a rather large customer of DEC's.

PS. I spoke afterwards with Olavi Poutanen a manager there at
Softplan; he would like to get some info on PCA if he hasn't already
contacted the local office.

Yes Nokia is a big customer of ours (the largest OEM in Finland),
but they are allso making their own hardware. The biggest effort
so far has been MPS 10 32-bit supermini. (The MPS 10 is
still under development, but they have allready sold lots
of them to mainly large commercial banks in Finland).
The operating system of MPS-10 is written mainly using ADA.
Softplan has developped the ADA compiler for MPS-10. Also
Softplan has been responsible of some parts of the OS.
They have developed a videotex system called MISTEL which has
allmost 100 % market share in Finland (We have sold VTX to only
one customer in Finland, the rest Softplans) I think they have
sold Mistel allso to many other European countries.
Softplan has offices in Helsinki, Tampere and Stockholm. I think
they have less than 200 people working for them.

Re: .0:
Walter TLE::CARRELL is the person to talk to about PCA. Also the
TLE cluster has a VAX Notes conference PCA. Use your "Select" key
to add it to your Notebook.

I was just trying to let the DEC S/W office know that Softplan in
Tampere is trying to get some literature re: PCA. I doubt Walt
needs to be brought in. The key to PCA is that they make something
similar but not quite the same and I think they want to tune it!
