361.0. "PERL, anyone?" by NIKKOR::HICKS (Chas Hicks, WB0LJP) Wed Oct 06 1993 17:49

	Does anyone have any info on the PERL language?

	I am looking for the following if anyone can help:

	1. description of the PERL language
	2. Sources for PERL for VMS, MSDOS, etc.
	3. Code samples, etc.

	There is a news group on PERL on Usenet but was hoping to find
	some stuff on our net first.

	Thanks...

Anonymous ftp to gatekeeper.dec.com will get you the perl source kit
and lots of extensions.

If you don't have IP, then DECWRL:: will get you to the same place.
Look in the file DECWRL::"/pub/Index-byname" or
DECWRL::"/pub/Index-bytime" for the string "perl".

    Chas/

    	If you have DCL access to Easynet, you can grab a DOS PERL from
    WINNAH.
    	The spec is WINNAH::"/ftp/msdos/perl/*". If you're copying from
    there thou', you have to copy each file separately, as it's a UNIX box
    and doesn't support wildcards in the same way VMS does.

    	If you have any prob, drop a line and we'll arrange something.
