286.0. "Pascal Information Needed" by TLE::REAGAN (Bo knows Pascal) Mon Sep 17 1990 19:05
The DEC Pascal (aka VAX Pascal) team needs your help.
We are trying to collect information for future versions of Pascal (on
VAX and non-VAX platforms, VMS and non-VMS platforms). We would like
any information/suggestions on Digital's Pascal offering. This includes
comparisions of VAX Pascal to other Digital Pascal products (like
Pascal for RISC on the DECstations) or other vendors Pascal products.
Some possible areas of comment include:
- Integration with the OS and programming environment
- Portability to other Digital and non-Digital platforms
- Conformance to standards (does anybody realize that a new Pascal
standard has just been finished with substantial new functionality?)
- Just feature by feature comparision based on user feedback and
customer need.
- Stories from the sales force involving Pascal queries/comments
from the potential customer.
Also, we are wanting to talk to actual customers. In particular, we'd
like to find sites that are considering moving away from Pascal as an
implementation language.
We'd also like feedback from existing Pascal for RISC sites on its
features and integration.
Additionally, I'd like to talk with a salesperson who is trying to
sell into a site who is using a competitor's Pascal compiler.
If you know of any sites that might fit these categories (or
a Pascal site that just wants to provide input/comments back
to engineering), please contact me.
Any other input pertaining to Pascal would also be appreciated.
Please forward this note to anybody who might have information,
but doesn't follow this conference.
Please send the input directly to me at TLE::REAGAN or follow up
with using the Pascal notesfile on TURRIS::PASCAL since I don't
normally read this conference.
Thank you for your time and knowledge.
-John
