265.0. "Functional Languages for ULTRIX RISC?" by PANIC::ELM (Cybernetic Morphological Pizza) Thu Jan 25 1990 06:55

I am working on a bid that requires compilers and environments for
development and debug for functional languages such as Miranda and
SML. The catch is that it is to run on an ULTRIX RISC platform.
Any info about any functional language from anyone (ourselves or
3rd party) would be much appreciated.

    Nader.

We are selling Lucid Common Lisp/DECsystem release 3.0. I don't
have the part numbers off hand, though.

I've been using LISPWORKS from Harlequin in the UK. It's quite good.

They include COMMON LISP, CLOS (Object Lisp), CLUE for building interfaces,
and lots of LISP machine-like features. Fantastic support.

OK, I know it's a bit late :-) I'm putting this here in case some *OTHER* poor
soul like me looks here for the same info.

Miranda was developed by Research Software Ltd. Release 2 of the language
is available on the following machines running UNIX - VAX, Sun 3, Sun 4,
Sun 386i, DECstation 3100 (don't know about qualification on DS5000), MIPS,
Apollo, ORION 1/05, Sequent Symmetry, HP9000/300.

According to the manufacturer, Miranda Release 2 "is a major new release
incorporating *parametrisised modules*, *local polymorphism*, *unbounded
precision integers*, and a substantially faster implementation" (italics
theis, not mine).

License fee per CPU is $750 for edu, $2750 for commercial users (UK prices
are #460 edu and #1575 commercial). Prices valid until 9/91. Network
licensing terms available "on enquiry" (those Brits - you gotta love 'em;
right Andy?).
