242.0. "Current VAX languages summary" by POBOX::MAEGDLIN () Thu Jul 13 1989 16:00

Does anyone know of a document or proposal template that summarizes
the languages supported on a VAX. I am looking for something that
includes current version #'s of the software, as well as standards
    that are adhered to etc.

I realize that I can probably pull this out of the SPD's but I
expect someone already has such a document/list.

Look at the list of language SPDs (available via VTX).

I agree that in a conference on languages, it makes sense to include
a catalog the options. If language supporters could spare the time,
and would briefly market their wares, rather than leave us to search
elsewhere, it would help us novices.

Note 217.* "Abstract, Kit, Notes Conference", one screen for each
    language, is a possible start.

The less than overwhelming response to note 217 is a good indication
that this idea won't work. Language developers can't spare the time,
don't always read this conference, and are employed as engineers, not
marketeers. They do a good job of answering questions from the field
on specific issues, but can't be expected to support this sort of
    higher-level request.

In the past, the DEC sales force has had a VAX Software Manual, that
listed all the available software. Does this still exist, or has the
increase in available software made it too unwieldly to be useful?

Otherwise, the VTX database for VAX software SPD's is organized by
application category. One of the categories is Languages, which should
be sufficient to answer the question in .0 without too much work.
