203.0. "SAS or IBM C compiler for mainframe?" by BROKE::GILPATRICK () Wed Oct 12 1988 11:52
The SAS Institute offers a mainframe C compiler. My experience with
V 3.01 of this product has been positive. Tech support replies were quick
and accurate. The manuals are clear and accurate. The interactive
debugger is available thru VM or TSO -- I used the VM flavor and found
it extremely good. This was my first C compiler on any tier, so I
really have no basis for comparison. But with the SAS/C manuals, K&R,
and a few other good C reference books I was quickly a productive contributor
to systems product development for an employer before Digital.
IBM offers a mainframe C compiler. I believe they initially acquired
the compiler from Whitesmith. The latest announcements discuss SAA
compatibility. Does anyone have experience with this compiler?
This query is being entered into the LANGUAGES and the IBM conferences.
Thank you in advance for your replies.
