160.0. "Another DATABUS (ala DATAPOINT) -> VAX desparate queary" by NYAREA::VECRUMBA (Peters J V) Thu Jan 07 1988 22:31
I'm looking for (oh no, not again) [DATAPOINT] DATABUS to VAX tools. Not
to confuse this, but it's actually to convert a IBM PC DATABUS look-alike.
I know Wilma Speirs has the DATABUS to COBOL translator (which I got a manual
for some time back for a different opportunity). I've run across something
called TBL "Transportable Business Language" put out by Transportable Software
International, which started off in 1984 in Australia.
TBL's chief features are:
- uses host machine's native files (works on VAX/VMS, DG/MV running
AOSVS, MS-DOS, and UNIX)
- compiles unmodified DATABUS source into target code, in turn
executed by a run-time package on the particular processor/OS
being used (although not stated, the product literature implies
that the "compiled" code is actually short-hand object which
gets interpreted at run-time -- but then, anything is faster than
the DATAPOINT machine where the stuff came from)
What does anyone out there know about this vendor or product??? Are there any
tools which translate DATABUS to something other than COBOL?
Any help would be _greatly_ appreciated!!
Best regards,
