142.0. "Did anyone just order a back issue of SIGPLAN Notices?" by DENTON::AMARTIN (Alan H. Martin) Fri Jun 12 1987 12:09
This is one for the record books:
I just got a phone call out of the blue from an embarrassed order clerk at
an ACM office in Maryland. Sometime recently (possibly yesterday,
Thursday, 11-Jun-87), someone placed a telephone order through her for a
back copy of the proceedings for the 1982 SIGPLAN Compiler Construction
conference (which is a special edition of SIGPLAN Notices with an orange
cover, if I recall).
Unfortunately, she recorded most of the necessary information except
for the person's name. She believes it was someone whose name started
with a "D" in New Hampshire.
If this sounds like you or one of your colleagues, please call ACM again,
and give them the rest of the information for your order. I wouldn't
recommend just placing the order again - there is always a slim chance
that the first one may reach its proper destination through more detective
work, and presumably the person doesn't need to pay for two copies.
