VAX PL/I is still alive and well...

Support:

Bugs are being fixed, SPRs answered, etc. (If you mean support people
at Telephone Support Centers, etc., there are probably fewer people
familiar with PL/I than with other languages, but there are some.)

New Releases:

VAX PL/I V3.0 will be going to field test shortly. It should emerge
from the SDC some time in the first half of 1987.

Performance on MicroVAX IIs?

It depends very much on the application. If the application avoids
FIXED DECIMAL, it should run fairly close to 780 (8200) speed. If the
On the other hand, if the application used FIXED DECIMAL very heavily,
the performance will be a very small fraction of a 780 (8200).

If you have more questions on VAX PL/I, I suggest that you use the VAX PL/I
notesfile (TLE::PLI), or send mail to TLE::PLI.

Update: We currently expect VAX PL/I V3.0 to be available in the field
by late May or early June. It will require VMS V4.4 or later. There
should be a Sales Update article on V3.0 within a month. (Note: V3.0
has more features than were originally planned. You can get more
details in the PL/I notesfile if you are interested.)
