93.0. "SIGPLAN '86 Symposium on Compiler Construction" by GALLO::AMARTIN (Alan H. Martin) Tue Jun 17 1986 15:53

I'm going to the SIGPLAN '86 Symposium on Compiler Construction next week,
as is Al Blackington. We'll be there for the whole week (tutorials +
paper presentations). Once again, we are looking forward to bumping into
DEC people, so if you will be going to the conference, why not post
a reply to this note so we can look for each other.

We're departing Logan on Sunday the 22nd, and arriving back on Saturday
the 28th. We'll be staying at the Hyatt Rickeys hotel. Send me mail
if you want to match itineraries for some reason.

93.1*sigh*CIM::JONANYou can't get there from hereWed Jun 18 1986 10:419
    I had planned on going, but my division wouldn't sponsor the trip
    and it would have cost me $1K just to go to the first coulple of
    days. I couldn't really afford that right now *sigh*. Anyway,
    do you know if it is possible to get transcripts of the proceedings
    and/or copies of the presentations? Thanks, and have a good trip!

    (jealously yours)

93.2Good news/Bad newsGALLO::AMARTINAlan H. MartinWed Jun 18 1986 20:2813
SIGPLAN '84's conference proceedings were distributed as an issue of
SIGPLAN Notices to all members of SIGPLAN, and I assume it will work
the same way this year. They contained complete copies of all papers
(except for correction sheets distributed by some nervous logicians).

The tutorial notes were pieces of paper bound with those weird stiff
interlocking plastic fingers through rectangular holes which allow pages to
lay flat and yet rip with no use at all. (I think AAA Triptiks are bound
like that). The cover doesn't even have printing on it, it is just
thick blue paper with imitation leather texture. I doubt they were
assembled with future sales in mind. However, if they can be bought
afterwards from ACM or SIGPLAN, I'll take down the ordering information for you.

93.4Good conference; tutorial out of printGALLO::AMARTINAlan H. MartinWed Jul 16 1986 12:3411
Well, SIGPLAN '86 was interesting. There are no printed (or recorded)
transcripts of the actual presentations, however a future issue of SIGPLAN
Notices will contain all the papers (it is the conference proceedings).

The tutorial notes were being sold at the conference to people who were
not attending the tutorial (for $10). However, they ran out on Wednesday,
and did not intend to print up more copies.

Those people who attend Jamie Frankel's compiler course at ZK will get
to see the notes.
