1.0. "-=- Purpose of This File -=-" by VAXUUM::DYER () Mon Jan 09 1984 17:19

	Welcome! Glad you could make it to VAXUUM! The purpose
of this file is to discuss the plusses and minuses of various com-
puter languages. Flames and religion are welcomed, as is general
raving.  We're pretty informal here...
	This note was started in response to flames about par-
ticular languages in a notes file not intended for that purpose.
	A previous copy of this file was (apparently) wiped out
when VAXUUM was feeling ill. My apologies to those who had
contributed to it.
	Certain languages' developers have established notes
files for their implementation of the language. Questions
about implementation should probably go in these files. What
follows is a list of some of these files (the ones I know about),
stolen from VORTEX::SYS$NOTES:NOTESLIST.

1.2Language products with conferences on TURRISTOKLAS::FELDMANPDS, our next successThu Jan 05 1989 17:2527
    The conferences owned by the Technical Languages and Environments
    group have now moved to node TURRIS. These are:

	ADA Notes File				TURRIS::ADA
	BLISS Notes File			TURRIS::BLISS
	C Notes File				TURRIS::VAXC
	FORTRAN Notes File            		TURRIS::FORTRAN
	VAX MACRO Notes File			TURRIS::MACRO
	PASCAL Notes File		      	TURRIS::PASCAL
	PL/I Notes File			      	TURRIS::PLI
	VAXELN ADA				TURRIS::VAXELN_ADA

    This is not an exhaustive list of conferences relating to languages
    that are hosted on TURRIS; I've only included those conferences
    that relate to language products (and I'm being generous in calling
    Macro a language :-).

    For an exhaustive, much more official list, see the official directory
    of Easynet conferences, in the notes file TURRIS::EASYNET_CONFERENCES
    (especially note 2, which is a directory subdivided by subject,
    and most especially note 2.6, which is the Languages and Editors
    subdivision), or in the text version of that directory, which is
    stored in ANCHOR""::NET$LIBRARY:EASYNOTES.LIS, and in various other
    regional copies, a directory of which is in note 2.3 of that conference
    of the EASYNET_CONFERENCES conference.
