847.0. "V4.0-26: GUI problems with crash dumps" by RDGENG::HAQUE (Shaheed R. Haque, 830-3531, reo2-f/b3) Wed Feb 19 1997 09:22

ladebug V4.0-26
Digital UNIX V3.2C

I have tried to run up the following combination to do crash dump analysis, and
found the following:

	1. The "Call Stack" button starts up blank. Fiddling about with it
	blindly causes it to wake up.

	2. Sometimes, on the tty where the dxladebug command was issued, I
	see "getStackInfo: Illegal item code = 28" messages. I think this
	happens each time I try to use the "Call Stack" button.

	3. No source is ever displayed in the source window, even when
	a "list" command will do the right thing. A typical result is:

(ladebug) $ scope 2
>2  0xffffffff881346ec in cbfc_unitdata_ind(...) cbfc.c:2725
   2725		assert(1 == 2);
No source line for address 0x7fffffffffffffff for display in Source View

	In other words, the Command Window is OK, but the Source View gets
	confused because it seems to have the wrong address (??).

	4. The "Local Variables View" is not updated immediately when I
	change scope. Instead, it gets updated in some lazy fashion I do not
	undersatnd, but seems to be egged on by random clicking around.

I'll copy over V4.0-30, and will report here if I see any differences.

	Thanks, Shaheed

Do you have reproducer for this? Glenn Joyce will be contacting
you on this.

I do not have the original crashes, but *every* dump I look at behaves like
this. Are you saying that this is not so for you?

>Glenn Joyce will be contacting you on this.

Great - I'll work with him/her.

	Thanks, Shaheed

BTW, has anyone else noticed how hard it is to tell the sex of most members of
the ladebug team from their name (almost as hard as mine)? Is there some deep
significance to this?
