At the current site where I am working, I have run into the following situation several times during the past week. The help desk received numerous calls from Teamlinks user complaining that they only had the hour glass on the screen while in teamlinks. Upon investigating, I found the A1MAIL$CONNECT process was consuming 95% of the CPU and was generating thousands of Buffered I/Os. Each time the problem seemed to correct itself, but the helpdesk is overwhelmed with user complaints. We're not running the latest Mailworks (1.3a-2). Would going to the ECO-3 Help? Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening. Thanx in advance, Ken

The following is in the release notes for V1.3A-3, this may help. -diana o The buffered IO rate may be effected because of a fix to properly handle a full buffer situation when sending data to a PC over TCP/IP. If there is a very high buffered IO rate, the send and receive quotas should be increased for TCP/IP. The following command can be used to check the send and receive quota for UCX: $ UCX SHOW DEV/PORT=6161 /FULL The send and receive quotas can be set system-wide by using the following command for UCX: $ UCX SET PROTOCOL TCP /QUOTA=(SEND:xxxxx,RECEIVE:xxxxx) Please refer to the appropriate TCP/IP documentation for further details about setting the send and receive quotas.

Much Thanx for the response. I'm not sure how to do this for Multinet, but I'll check it out. Ken

There is also an ICF patch that has been released by the folks in Reading (who now support the product) that will fix this problem. You will need to contact them to see what the appropriate patch is. I believe the contact person is Arfon Rees (IOSG::REESA) -rob

Thanx for the reply about the patch. I spoke with Cisco regarding changing the send/receive quotas and the best that we could come with was that we could change the TCP window size. Unfortunately, this would mean a change to some parameters in the Multinet Kernel and we would not be supported if we modified these parameters. We'll pursue the patch. Ken |
