4028.0. "Taste of Home Magazine" by GENRAL::KILGORE (The UT Desert Rat living in CO) Tue Feb 14 1995 09:54
My sister got me a subscription to Taste of Home magazine. This is a
publication full of `practical' recipes published bi-monthly. The
magazine is edited by 1,000 country cooks. They got acquainted with
most of them through the recipes and other food items the people had
submitted to their company's other magazines (Country, Country Handcrafts,
Reminisce, Farm & Ranch and Country Woman). They also have contacted
Extension home economist in several states and provinces, asking them
to name some of their area's best cooks. Taste of Home finally narrowed
the list so that each state and provice would be represented, giving
them not only the largest but the most geographically diverse staff
ever compiled in any magazine.
So far I have received 2 issues and both are chocked full of recipes
anyone could make, you don't have to have a culinary degree to understand
how to prepare the meal. They also have speciality sections including
questions/answers re: cooking, a roundup of the latest cooking information
from manufacturers, colleges and other sources, cute antedotes, how to
`dress' the table with a theme, kid's recipes, economic meals, what's new
for cooks and kitchens (the latest utensils, gadgets and gourmet food
items), a large `Clip and Keep' recipe section, facts about herbs, rural
tours, restaurants and cafes, how to use left-overs, late-night snack
recipes, info about food related businesses, kitchen collectibles, recipes
for travel and potlucks, cooking for a crowd, recipes for diabetics (and
alot of the recipes have the diabetic exchanges), men cooks and much more.

I agree, I've been a subscriber for over a year now and I love the
magazine. We've subscribed to Bon Appetit and Gourmet, and Taste of
Home is the only subscription that we've kept. I like the fact that
the recipes are genuine homestyle cooking using common easy-to-acquire
ingredients. There's always a number of great recipes in every issue.
