When I use to live in Sweden I would often ride the ferry between Helsinborg and Helsingor. The main objective was to drink taxfree during the ride but I would also often have a Rakor Smorgas (an openface shrimp sandwich). This was great and I have tried to re-create the same thing here in the U.S. but to no avail. I believe the biggest difference is in the mayonaise used in Sweden. Does anyone know what I am talking about and if so any ideas on the mayonaise. Thanks, Jim

Yes, I too have enjoyed these open face shrimp sandwiches. As for your request for the mayonaise, I have found something similar and it comes in a tube. I have been successful in getting some good Swedish as well as other Scandinavian food at the IKEA furniture store. I think you can mail order it if you need. I've been to several IKEA's and they are located in Seattle, Philly, Baltimore, D.C., and Elizabeth NJ. Hopefully soon they will have another store here in New England.... I love their resturant!! |
