| Keep in mind, everyone's system works differently:
Acidic foods:
- Citrus (oranges, grapefruits, etc.)
- Juices
- Some spicy foods have citris in them
- Salad dressing
Constipate:
- Cheese
- Too much fiber (if you aren't used to eating much fiber and
you suddenly start, it'll overwhelm your system. Start gradually.)
Gas:
- Deli meats (lunch-type meats, pepperoni, sausage)
- High fiber stuff (salad ingredients)
- Cheese
- Dairy Products (if you have this particular problem)
- Broccoli and it's relatives
This is just a beginners list. If you need more info, maybe I can be of
help off line. (I've had a few stomach problems...)

| Acidic - Any cooked tomato sauce for me. Although not until the middle
of the night after I've gone to sleep does it hit me. I don't
care, though - 2 Rolaids and back to sleep. What kind of an
Italian is going to stop eating pasta sauce?

Jack, I know what you mean. I'm italian too and still can't stop
eating this type of food. I don't know what I'm going to do come
summer when the tomatoes are out. I have the problem with the acidic
foods.
My son who is starting to eat solids now has minor gas problems and
major constipation so I am looking at a list for him mostly.

| Almost anything made from fruits or tomatoes will have acid. Ketchup is
a bad one.
Regarding consipation: bananas are particularly bad (surprisingly).
Also, almost any meat, especially red meat. And, as mentioned, most
cheese. Best way to avoid constipation is to have a lot of veggies in
the diet, and minimize animal fats.
Regarding gas, not all vegetables are a problem. In fact, most aren't.
But most beans are (I forget what it is, but there's some kind of
protein in beans which is supposedly the culprit).
Cheese and some other dairy products can cause all sorts of problems
for some kids (though not for others). Butterfat and lactose tend to be
the culprits. I haven't heard much about sensitivity to dairy proteins, though.

| I guess all things are relative. Bananas may be bad for some but,
as one who has consumed a half dozen or more of the bonk berries,
have never affected me adversely. Your milage may vary.

| Bananas seem to cause constipation mainly in infants and very young
children. They don't bother me much, either.

The problem with beans and gas is not a protein in the beans. It's
various unusual sugars (beyond the usual fructose, glucose, and
disaccharides of same). Fermentation of these sugars by gut bacteria
is what produces the gas. These sugars are water-soluble, which is
why soaking the beans overnight and discarding the water helps with
the problem--it removes the offending sugars.

| Thanks for the correction. I don't know about others, but I find basic
principles of food and metabolism to be very useful in cooking. It
makes it a lot easier to get things to come out right (and tasty).
