Hey, as long as they think chocolate deserts are "better than sex"
you're all set!
Anyway, I've seen things called "better than sex" and "chocolate
orgasms" and "death by chocolate" - many dishes with the same name,
sometimes the same dish with different names, all variations on the
theme: incredibly rich very moist all-chocolate concoctions. I suspect
there is no particular recipe for this...rather, many recipes that
different people call that.
Chocolate Orgasms, as defined by Baby Watson, are simply very rich
fudge brownies, which are soft (like, uncooked) in the middle.

| One of the gentlemen in our group always makes "Sex in a Bowl" as a
dessert for any of our parties. To the best of my recollection, it
is layered in a trifle bowl and contains:
Cut up chocolate cake sprinkled with kahlua
Chocolate pudding
Whipped cream
Layer these things until you run out, preferably finishing with
the whipped cream.
Sound anything like it?

Well, it looked great until we got to the "cool whip". Shouldn't that be
real, honest-to-goodness, cholesterol-laden, darn-near-butter, whipped cream?

Hey, I'm not worried about what they're doing at these parties ... I
think you should get yourself to parties where they manage to eat such
good stuff so you can try it out! :-).

me:
2 round layers choc. cake 2 pkg. choc. pudding
2 lg. containers cool whip kahula
Cut cake into strips. Layer in bowl: cake (cut side down)

Repeat layers. Chill and serve.
I've been told that if you don't like choc. this works just as well
with white cake, vanilla pudding, and any flavored liquor.
Enjoy!

Think of those of us who have sensitivities to chocolate; either
allergies or migraine triggers (which I suffer from) pity us!
(I REALLY like chocolate too, which makes it all the worse).
So, maybe there's a reason to use the vanilla version......

3873.15 | Chocolate Decadence | HANNAH::BAY | Jim Bay | Mon Dec 06 1993 13:07 | 21 |
| I had something once called "Chocolate Decadence". It was a dessert
featured at a resturant in Greenwich, CT, the name of which escapes me
("Greenback's" rings bell).
I don't know what it was, and it wasn't really THAT appealing looking.
It was a very dark, almost black, chocolate wedge about 1/4 to 1/2 inch
high. It was about the size of the triangle you get if you hold your
hands so that your thumbs touch, and your forefingers touch.
The waiter, when he told us the name of the item on the dessert cart,
told us that the two of us TOGETHER would not be able to finish it. We
scoffed at him. Remember, this is smaller and thinner than a KitKat
bar. And I and my dinner companion at the time LOVED chocolate!
Well, amazingly enough, the waiter was right. There was no way the two
of us could put this thing away. It was THAT rich. I would give
ANYTHING to know what on earth was in that stuff. I'm not big into
food, but tthats one dish I'll never forget.

Thanks in advance

| Kahlua is coffee-flavored liqueur, so you'll need a coffee-flavored
substitution. I'd suggest espresso, or very strong coffee, using it in
the recipe as you would have used the Kahlua.

Are two or three of you planning on having the entire thing to yourselves?
You don't really think anyone would be affected by the small amount of alcohol,
do you?

| They make coffee flavored syrup (for milk shakes and such). It would
probably make a good substitute. If there is another source of
sugar in the recipe I would reduce it as the syrups are (needless to
say) quite sweet.

| Thanks for all your ideas. The reason I am not using alchohol
is because the majority rather not have it in there if possible.
Another suggestion was to boil the khalua for 30 seconds or so to get
rid of the alchohol. I think my mom has some coffee flavored syrup so
I think that's what I'll be using.

| As for the topic of boiling the Kaluha to get rid of the alcohol....
This letter was in this month's issue of Cook's Illustrated. Reprinted
without permission:
"I need a definative answer regarding cooking with wine. I frequently
cook for friends who are recovering alcoholics. Is it true that
alcohol burns off during the cooking process? Are there some methods
of cooking that eliminate more alcohol than others? Should wine be
reduced before using to ensure that no alcohol remains, and if so, by
how much? What about cooking with other alcoholic beverages?
Unsigned,
Duluth, MN
Studies conducted at Washington State University indicate that alcohol
does not completely burn off during cooking, as many cooks once supposed.
In general, dishes that cook briefly will retain more alcohol than
simmering stews. For instance, reasearchers found thatpot roast cooked
in red wine for 2 1/2 hours retained about 5% of its original alcohol
content. In contrast, a chicken breast and white wine saute still had
40% of its alcohol after 10 minutes of simmering, and cherries jubilee
kept 75% of its alcohol after being flambeed in brandy for one
minute...."
I would conclude from the article that boiling Kaluha for 30 seconds
would leave a significant amount of alcohol.

| Non-drinking alcoholics strenuously avoid even trace amounts of alcohol
in food. Something to keep in mind if you're making food for people at
work whom you don't know well.
At least tell people if there's alcohol in your food.
