I'd like to get a deep fat fryer. Any recommendations? I'm skeptical of the Fry-Daddy variety when cooking stores offer models for over a hundred dollars. What are the things to look for?

Biggest complaint I have with Fry Daddy's/Gran Pappy's and the like is that they are constant temperature and therefore good for only one thing - deep frying. One of the units with infinitely adjustable heat settings gives you a lot more versatility. I recently bought a Presto unit for little money (under $30) which I was able to obtain a crockery liner for, so I can use it for frying, steaming, roasting, slow cooking, stewing, popcorn, etc., etc., etc. -Jack

I have a Dazey Chef's Pot. It does it all. It comes with a basket for deep frying. So far all I've done is fry in it, and it works great. I have made the best homemade french fries and crab rangoons in it. It cost $30 2 yrs ago. I still see them around, in the sunday paper circulars they are on sale alot. Sandy

re: .2 Ooops! Your response reminded me - the one I referred to in .1 isn't a Presto afterall - it's a Dazey! -Jack |
