3765.0. "Wanted: Raw Shelled Shrimp [place to buy]" by NETRIX::michaud (Jeff Michaud, DECnet/OSI) Mon Mar 08 1993 10:44

Does anyone know of any stores in the Nashua area that
sells raw shelled shrimp (fresh, previously frozen, or frozen)?

I've only found it once, at the Market Basket in the Westside
Plaza, but I don't get that far West that often. Shaws
Nashua and a couple of the other Market Baskets in Nashua
do not seem to carry it. Maybe a small store that specializes
	in Meat (like Mike's)?

I love Shrimp, but I hate shelling [and de-veining] them!

Try BJ's. I have found a huge selection of frozen shrimp at the one in
Westboro, MA. You may have some luck there.
3765.2Edward's in ShrewsburyBIGSOW::BAROUDMon Mar 08 1993 14:526
Try Edward's Supermarket (Rt. 9, Shrewsbury). The sell "frozen fresh"
simple peel shrimp. The medium are on sale this week. Although they
are not peeled, the shells have been cut and they have been deveined.
They are really easy and taste great.

3765.3S&S Westboro (look for occasional sales too)APLVEW::DEBRIAELa Course en TeteMon Mar 08 1993 16:5618
Check out the Super Stop & Shop in Westboro. I needed 10 lbs of
extra-large shrimp for a large special occasion (family) dinner
I prepared last month. It took me a solid week of cooking to put
the whole thing together, and the last thing I wanted to do was
shell and de-vein a big pile of shrimp. Super S&S not only had
shelled and de-veined shrimp (unless you have a LOT of free time
the day of the meal I wouldn't get anything else), but they just
happened to have had a big shrimp sale that day as well. I lucked
out and saved 35% off their regular price (which was the same as
    	the other stores I priced).

Something to watch out for anyway. S&S may not be a Legal Seafood
market, but the quality was very good/excellent, and on-sale you
    	couldn't beat that price.

Try the Nashua Fish Market on 101A. Their fish is very fresh.

Try New England Shrimp, a warehouse in Ayer MA.
They are only open M-F, are in the phone book.
They sell only shrimp, deveined, raw, undeveined, cooked, jumbo,
salad size, Cajun, you name it.

Bring a cooler in your trunk and go at lunchtime.
	The quality is excellent.

NE shrimp is not exactly in the Nashua area, but it is great for shrimp. They
are open 12-6, so if you go at lunch, don't make it an early lunch.

I heard about that, but never found them closed, and I've been there quite a few
times. I also never noticed any difference in the shrimp between there and the
Quarterdeck in Maynard where I used to buy shrimp.
