Lobster is advertised at $2.99 / lb in Purity Supreme this week. Microwaving Lobster? Over Labour Day Weekend I was in Upstate N.Y. and picked up a leaflet in Wegmans grocery store giving microwaving instructions. Anyone done it this way - how did the lobsters turn out? MICROWAVING LOBSTER - INSTRUCTIONS. *Note: I haven't tried this out.* Sever the spinal cord. Turn the lobster backside down and peg the tail with a wooden skewer t prevent curling, by pushing the point of the skewer through the soft shell and sliding it up the length of the trai. (Bamboo skewer will do fine for this). Place a single lobster, shell side up in a shallow container suitable for microwave cooking. The dish should be large enough to hold the whole lobster. Add 1/4C (4 fl.oz). Cover with plastic wrap, folding back one corner to vent. **(If you use a dish with a lid large enough to hold the whole lobster, there is no need to sever the spinal cord or to peg the tail.) TO COOK a 1 1/4 lb lobster. Microwave on high power for 6.5 to 8 minues and allow 5 minutes standing time (The standing time is necessary to finish cooking without making lobster meat tough). The cooking time may have to be increased or decreased one minute for each 2 oz over or under the 1 1/4 lb weight of the lobster. Weigh you lobster on a cale or check the weight/price sticker on the packge. Fractions of a pound are labeled in tentch. Each 1/1- lb equals slightly over 1 1/2 oz. Enjoy - Anna

I have 2 questions regarding the previous note. It says add 1/4 c (4 oz) It doesnt say 1/4 cup of what, and 1/4 cup is 2 oz, not 4 oz. Bill

With still looking at a total of about 12 minutes cooking time, I think I would still rather boil mine for 20 without having to operate on it!

i can't believe that anyone would even think about putting a live lobster in a microwave and zapping him. yes, i love to eat them too but isn't that alittle harsh. if you decide to use this method by all means severing the spinal cord should be done, IMO. cj (who knew she shouldn't read this note)

Lobsters have no nervous system. That equates to no sense of feeling as we know it. A lobster is in no agony if you rip off his claw. It just grows another one. I agree, however, and cannot bring myself to drop one into the pot of boiling water! (; And, since I don't like lobster, I don't have to! (: (: |
