3385.0. "Quorn" by GALVIA::HOGAN () Fri Dec 20 1991 10:51

Hi,

A friend of mine brought some quorn home from England for me. The problem
is that I haven't a clue how to cook it. (I've looked through the file and I
couldn't find any recipes) I just want some general guidelines - you know, like
it takes x minutes to grill it it it's cut up small, y minutes if it's big; how
long to bake it for etc. I was planning on making satay with it this weekend. I
assume it's suitable for this? (I haven't seen the stuff yet)

Thanks,
	Mairad.

    What's quorn?

It's some sort of non-animal protein. I'm not really sure what it's
made of but I think it's made from some form of fungi.

Its actually a form of mushroom I believe. As to cooking I believe if
you are making satay then you would cook as per the recipe. We can buy
quorn from Tesco's here and the recipes they have on the back are for
stirfrys and the cooking time is normally the same as if you were
    cooking with beef or chicken.

    Hope this helps!

Quorn is mentioned in the Oxford English Dictionary *Supplement*
as "The name of a village in Leicestershire (now Quorndon), used
attrib. and ellipt. to denote a famous hunt centered there.

How's that for drifting from the immediate subject!
