3383.0. "SOFTWARE: Recipe Programme" by SHIRE::SCHMITT () Thu Dec 19 1991 08:19

Hello out there,

Santa is back again ...

Here is another goodie for anyone who enjoys cooking and is tired of seeing
nice cookery books accidentally soiled or of searching through umpteen
books for a favourite recipe.

RECIPE BOOK will enable you to have at your fingertips any recipe you wish
by searching by a combination of criteria (title, origin, type, ingredient).
Once the desired recipe spotted, print and consume hot from the press.

The present programme already contains a few recipes which will enable you
to play with it (Note: They have been downloaded from the notes files ...).

The programme comes with NO manual. If in trouble, press the <F1> key ...

When starting the programme, you will notice a shareware screen. This of
course is not applicable for DECies who get the programme for FREE !!!
This version is in no way crippled but the Database exchange functions need
an user ID (that's simply a condition in my up and downloading algorythm).

So just send me your name and node so I can give you a customised version
that will enable you to exchange recipes with other users and as a bonus
this nasty shareware screen will be disabled ...

Any bear money you may wish to send will be used to help a young chap suff-
ering from a vicious brain tumour and who needs all the help he can get.
Thanks on his behalf.

Looking forward to hearing from you in the new year.

In the meantime, may Santa Claus fill all deserving stockings ...

Enjoy,
Marc

Forgot to mention that the programme runs on a PC ...
Does not work on a VAX ...

Sorry for those who might have thought it could run on a VAX.

3383.2Need some help, pleaseLANDO::EBENSMary Jean Ebens - BXB2-2/G06Fri Oct 01 1993 16:0321
    Hi Marc,

I copied over the both files ok, but can't get it to run. I should tell you
    that I'm a novice PCer.

Do I have to do something else besides type RECIPE at the prompt in the
    proper subdirectory?

I got a shareware copy of Edna's Cookbook which does a lot of what I
want, but the output is not as nice as I would like. Spacing is poor
and the lines tend to run together. Also the editor leaves a lot to be
    desired.

The program does offer nice catagory and subcatagory listings which can
be customized. Also has a field for the source and a facility for
adding the current date. You can even "hide" those secret family
recipes that McDonald's has been trying to get their hands on!

    Thanks for your help.
