3336.1 | Of course they are different! Taste and see | TNPUBS::STEINHART | | Thu Nov 21 1991 15:38 | 15 |
| >Simple question...does using walnut vs pecan meats change the taste
> of a pecan pie recipe?
YES! To my tongue, walnuts are not as sweet. Pecans have a special
flavor. When baked in such a pie, they also soften a bit which makes
them easier to cut and chew.
>Also, does using dark vs light karo syrup
> make a difference?
Of course. Most recipes call for dark. My Mom started using light and
we preferred it that way. Heck, if you really wanted dark, I suppose
you could use molasses. Yech.

3336.2 | Toasted walnut pie with maple | MCIS5::CORMIER | | Fri Nov 22 1991 09:13 | 6 |
| Try toasting the walnuts first. It makes a nice flavor change. Also add
a dash of maple extract. Yummy! Not "pecan pie", but definitely a
winner.
PS
Break the walnuts halves in half (I guess that means walnut
"quarters"), or you'll have a difficult time slicing the pie.

3336.3 | Try Maple Sirup | LANDO::EBENS | Mary Jean Ebens - BXB2-2/G06 | Wed Jan 08 1992 12:44 | 4 |
| Try substituting real maple sirup for some of the "sirup". Makes it
extra yummy.

Uh-oh, you could be in trouble here, Robert. "Sirup" is
a variant. (Maybe not in "Chambers").
