Hi all, Just returned from a one only trip to the USA where I became addicted to Ranch dressing. Ranch dressing is not available where I live so I would really (pretty please) like to have a recipe for the real thing. Can anyone help?????

Its too bad you've finished your trip; many grocers in the states (and in Canada) carry the mix (in a sachet) that you only have to add water/milk or mayo to. These travel well. Perhaps you can have a friend mail some to you. (I often pack well-packaged foodstuffs not available here in Canada into my luggage on the way home from a training trip in the US. There is so much more variety of items in an american grocery store...) Monica

I did bring some off these "sachet's" back with me, I'm just getting in early before they run out. Surely there must be someone out there that knows how to make Ranch dressing, not from a packet, the way MUM (Mom) makes it. Could it be that Ranch is only a manufactured flavour and that it's recipe is actually a well kept secret like Coca Cola with lots of artificial flavours and additives?? RAy 8*O

Nope, I think there are some published recipes for it (even though my Mum never made it) I betcha between us we could find something for you (although I've been lazy up until now and only bought the bottled kind). Monica

late, but: the real ranch taste comes from a mixture of buttermilk and mayonaise, mixed in equal amounts and stirred well (no mixer's or anything, stir by hand). Seasoning is simply a little dried parsley flakes, rubbed through your fingers, some salt, and a little sprinkle of onion and garlic powder. You can add black pepper if you like also. You can add a whopping big load of MSG and voilla! just like the packages....I forgo the MSG, add a little rubbed, dried chives...and when feeling quite frisky, I add well drained capers. Enjoy! |
