| The mismarked pans did not reappear.
The TX MAX was manchester and there was only one. (Had there been more
the resulting left over number would have been the same).

| I don't know about reasonable prices, but the yuppie cooking store at
the Pheasant Lane Mall carries them (Lechmere did, but has dropped the
line). If you happen to catch when they go on sale, you can get a good
deal (I picked up a set of three pots, lids, steamer, and skillet for
around $100 two years ago).
You'll find a much better selection at restaurant suppliers, but no
bargains (though maybe better than full list price).

| A few months back, I put a reply in the note on pans about where to buy
Master Chef pans which are made in Cannonsburg, Pennsylvania. Master
Chef are similar to the All Clad only they don't have the black
coating. The ones you want are black, right? One source is the
restaurant supplier just outside of Concord, NH although I've never
been able to get an alert salesperson on the phone there. Another
place would be Kitchens Etc.
The TJ Maxx store in Manchester, NH has been getting a supply here and
there of Master Chef and I think I saw a few All Clads a while back,
however, they are irregulars (if it matters any). The manager of the
Manchester store gave me phone numbers for four of the stores that
carry the expanded line of cookware. Not sure where my list is right
now though but from memory, the stores are Manchester, NH, and the rest
in Massachusetts are: Sudbury, Stoughton and N. Andover. If you happen
to find a supply of Master Chef or All Clads at any of these stores,
please share the information in here else your legs will be broken! :^)

| Surprisingly, I've seen the All-Clad cookware on sale at Bloomingdales
in the Chestnut Hill mall a few weeks ago. They had both natural
aluminum and a slightly more expensive anodized exterior variety.
The price reductions were dramatic (40 percent off or something) -
so this is the kind of thing to wait for a sale on. I doubt if
they were "seconds" or flawed.

| Re: .4
Got mixed up between Master Chef and All Clad. Master Chef pans are
made by All Clad and they are the silver-colored pans. Not sure what
the black coated pans are called, but in any event, they do have the
All Clad's at some TJ Maxx stores.
Re: .5, you are supposed to tell us when the sale is going on, not that
we just missed it. :^(
Also, you can also phone the factory in Cannonsburg to ask for
retailers in your local area. I believe this attempt a few years back
is how I found the restaurent supplier in Bow, just outside of Concord,
NH.

| Kevin, Another source for Master Chef pans is The Whip and Spoon in
Portland (and South Portland) Maine. Their number is 800.937.9447.
While their prices are not cheap by any means, they do have a large
selection of Master Chef as well as many other name brands. It's a
great little kitchen store to visit, however, the prices can be a real
turnoff. But, you asked for a supplier in New England....

| I've not had trouble locating the MC pans, however, the price/value
ratio does seem a bit steep. Thanks for the pointer to the Whip and
Spoon, I know it well. I was living up there when it opened. Prices
used to be quite reasonable and it was one of the last supply stores
in New England to sell non-stainless steel knives.
I have a new delema. I also discovered the new Magna-Pro cook ware.,
the Magnalite profesional offering now being touted to the deeper
pocketed consumers. Since I have some wonderful anodized aluminum
pieces of their other lines, I was intrigued by the stainless offering.
Same 18/10 inside and out as everyone else, but 2mm of copper instead
of cast aluminum.
There are also much better priced than the All-Clad.
I'll likely buy a piece or two to try it. Failing that, I may get some
of my old copper pans re-tinned (and with the new pan prices, this is
looking like a great deal)
sigh,
Kevin

| If anyone is interested, there seems to be another supply of All Clad
pans reappearing at the TJ Maxx in Manchester, NH. They had a small
selection of both the LTD and Master Chef labels. A few of these
followed me home this evening. :^) If anyone happens to come across
any Master Chef pans (still looking for a 12 quart stock pot) on sale,
please send mail. Now, to find room for the new arrivals....

| Thanks for the pointer. We were looking to buy some pans for my mother
for mother's day, and the cooking store at the Pheasant Lane Mall in
Nashua doesn't carry the line anymore due to weak demand (everybody's
buying Calphalon, which we feel is inferior).
For those in the NY City area, Fortunoff has a perpetual sale of
certain sets. A six-piece set consisting of 10" frying pan, 1.5 qt
covered saucepan, 2.5 qt covered saucepan, and 6 qt stock pot goes for
$239. The open stock prices were no bargain, though (12" fry pan for $85).

| I picked up a stainless steel 12 qt. stock pot over the weekend. It is
a Revere with the copper bottom. The Lechemere in Woburn, MA is
remodeling and had a bunch (about 6) marked $29.99 (in a section marked
remodelling closeouts or something). I looked at the supply they had on
display in the kitchen section and besides the cardboard box and the
price ($65) they were the same item.

3324.12 | expensive pans but they'll likely outlast you | SPEZKO::RAWDEN | Cheryl Graeme Rawden | Tue Jun 23 1992 21:30 | 8 |
| Mike, that was a 12" fry pan for how much? TJ's had the 10" Master
Chef for $30. I bought a 3 quart saute pan for $60. Kitchen's Etc in
Nashua had the same item selling in the $90 price range. Granted, TJ's
has irregulars but you really can't complain about a small scratch.
After a few months of usage they all look the same anyway.
Every time I bring home a few more MC pans I claim that my set is now
complete. My husband insists I've done this three or four times now.
Think he's catching on? :^)
