I was looking for a recipe for greek wedding cookies. The spelling is kourabethes (sp). Does anyone have the recipe for these? I will need the recipe if at all possible by this Thursday evening. Does anyone have anymore greek dessert recipes? I have a friend who is half greek and loves to eat sweets. I made the baklava and was in 7th heaven. Thanks for any help.

The recipe that I asked Sue about in note 3225 reminded me of my recipe for Kouramedies(?). I'll post the recipe this evening, although I can't guarantee it's exactly what you are looking for! There's many recipes in cookbooks for these cookies and they always vary quite a bit. The recipe was given to me by a Greek woman who is a fabulous cook. They use a lot of confectionary sugar and butter. Not diet material at all. :^) | |||||

Kourambiedes 1 pound sweet butter, left out overnight 2 tbsp spry (crisco) 1/4 cup confect. sugar (+ two additional boxes) 6 cup flour 2 egg yolks 1 cup chopped almonds 1/2 shotglass of whiskey 1 tsp baking powder beat butter and spry in mixer until creamy. add c. sugar, eggs, almonds, vanilla and as much flour as needed (up to 6 cups). roll. cut out cookies with cookie cutter. bake 15 minutes @ 450F. place c. sugar in the bottom of a tray. put cookies on the c. sugar, then sift more c. sugar over the cookies, leaving overnight. *** there's more than one version (and maybe spelling :^) of these cookies available. I've seen them shaped into a small ball with a clove in the center, but also have tried them when they are rolled out flat and cut with a cookie cutter, resembling a sugar cookie. perhaps a reader of Greek origin can help you with your pursuit. |
